STEM Crawl 2021

Join us for STEM Crawl, 2021! To celebrate the Northshore Regional STEM Center’s launch, we will be highlighting STEM education opportunities from organizations in all 5 Northshore parishes throughout the whole month of July. Read below to learn more about the STEM Crawl and how you and your family can participate.

What is STEM Crawl?

With the concept of collaboration in mind, the Northshore STEM Center’s “grand opening” will be celebrated with a month-long showcase of STEM opportunities being offered by multiple organizations throughout our region. Travel from location to location all month long in this event-hopping experience to explore multiple STEM opportunities available to you!

The STEM Crawl highlights the fact that quality STEM education resources and opportunities can be found throughout the Northshore region. Organizations participating in the STEM Crawl include local libraries, museums, industry and education partners, community groups, and more. WHAT: Supercharge your summer with STEM camps across Louisiana!

Robotify Mars Challenge

WHAT: Join the Robotify Mars Challenge this summer and learn to code a robot the fun, easy way. Teams of 3 plus a coach learn and work together to program a drone to race for resources in Mars’ inhospitable climate against other competitors. Coaches can have multiple teams. 

WHO: All Louisiana parents, teachers, youth-serving adults, and youth. EACH STUDENT ON THE WINNING TEAM WILL RECEIVE $1,000!

WHEN: REGISTRATION DEADLINE JULY 9TH! Coaches will receive a professional development session and can hold practices in July with the competition taking place in late July.

Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum STEAM Summer Camp

WHAT: STEAM Summer Camp 2021

WHAT: 2021 Torbotics Summer AstroCamp

Lion's Code Cybercamp

WHAT: Southeastern Louisiana University Department of Computer Science Lion’s Code CyberCamp. There are two separate sessions, students may register for the one that best fits their schedule. The Lion’s Code CyberCamp is free.

WHO: Students entering 8th-12th grades

WHEN:  July 19-22 or July 26-29. Both sessions take place each day 9:00a-3:00p.

Esports for All: Louisiana Esports League Launch

WHAT: Ready-to-go programming to support or start a local esports club for youth. Help students develop high-demand STEM skills through competitive and social computer gaming. All NASEF and LASEF resources are NO-COST.

NASA AstroCamp

WHAT: NASA AstroCamp program that connects youth to NASA Science Missions, Challenges and resources in Astrophysics, Heliophysics, Earth Science, Planetary Science, and Human Explorations with Moon to Mars.

WHEN: July 12-16, 19-23, & 26-30

FCC Sewing Camp

WHAT: While considered a traditional skill, sewing is frequently used in STEM fields. For example, without sewing, we wouldn’t have parachutes or space suits! Sewing promotes spatial reasoning skills as well as pattern recognition, all qualities crucial for STEM disciplines. Hone these skills and more at the FCC Annual Sewing Camp!

WHO: Youth ages 13 and up. Adults welcome too!

Southeastern Safety Expo

WHAT: The SLU Police Department is hosting its Public Safety Expo! Safety presentations include child safety seat inspections and installations, firearms safety and situational awareness, impaired driving awareness, DNA and fingerprinting kits for kids, bicycle safety and more. Entry to the event and participation in the stations are FREE!

WHO: Everyone is welcome, bring the whole family!

NTCC's Science of Food Camp

WHAT: Explore nutrition, refrigeration, cooking, food safety, water quality, and advanced manufacturing all in one camp from Northshore Technical Community College!
